Desert Overture, Phoenix’s Premier LGBT and Ally Wind Symphony, is partnering with the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department to host Hance Park POPS! on Sunday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m. This FREE concert will take place at Margaret T. Hance Park at 67 West Culver Street, Phoenix, AZ 85003, located in downtown Phoenix. The Pops concert spans a wide range of styles and genres, with plenty of recognizable songs. Music includes melodies from Wicked, Moana and the Marvel Universe, among other pop selections.
“Our performances often takes us to magical places,” said Scott Helms, Desert Overture Band Director. “This concert will be no different and highly entertaining.”
Desert Overture, with its more than 70 musicians, was formed in 2010 and remains a hidden cultural gem in the Valley of the Sun. The concert band is an active member of the Pride Bands Alliance, which has grown to 37 member bands across the country, as well as internationally. The group performs several major concerts each year.
Many Desert Overture members played instruments in high school and college and now enjoy producing quality music, along with friends in once-a-week rehearsals.
