After 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) misbehaves the night before his family's Christmas trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O'Hara) sends him to sleep in the attic. The next morning, the entire McCallister family rushes to the airport, accidentally leaving Kevin behind. At first, Kevin relishes the solitude and freedom, believing his wish to live without his family has come true. However, his excitement turns to dread when he discovers two burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) plan to rob the house. Kevin must rely on his wits and creativity to set up a series of hilarious and ingenious traps to protect the home from the criminals, all while trying to reunite with his family.
