Quite Like Paradise (2024) is a dark satirical comedy directed by Edgar San Juan, based on Luis Spota's novel. The film follows Ugo Conti, a charismatic young man who deceives his way into high society by pretending to be a European aristocrat. In Mexico City, he quickly gains the admiration of the elite and rekindles a romance with his former lover, Frida Becker. As Ugo becomes entangled in a dangerous political power struggle, his carefully constructed facade begins to crumble. When he falls from grace, the very society that once adored him turns on him with equal intensity. The film critiques the influence of social media, political power, and class aspirations, all while showcasing stunning locations across Italy and Mexico. With sharp performances and a thought-provoking narrative, Quite Like Paradise explores the dangers of deception in the modern world.
