Huei Young's garden is a reflection of her interest in nature, harmony and tranquility. The inspiration of her gardens was her father, who, unable to create a large garden in the limited space available where they lived in Taiwan, expressed his love of form, nature and scenery in his calligraphy and paintings. It was Huei's hope to create an Asian garden that her father could visit and enjoy. Unfortunately, he passed away before the garden was completed, but Huei succeeded in creating an atmosphere in which her home is an integral part of the garden, and everything is consistent with the principles of Feng Shui.

The garden at her Davis home has been the site of numerous fund-raisers for non-profit organizations, including Shriners Children's Northern California, whose patients in the cerebral palsy program are the beneficiaries of these tours.

Tour guests will enjoy a stroll alongside the "City Garden", which Huei cultivated and maintained for the City of Davis on the greenbelt trail adjacent to her home. The front of the home welcomes and teases guests about what they can expect when immersed in the private garden alongside and behind her home. Light refreshments are available for tour guests. A donation of $25 per person is requested. Reservations can be made by emailing joseph.wilson@shrinenet.org; or calling (916) 453-2018. Donations accepted at the door. Advance payments accepted at: https://donate.lovetotherescue.org/fundraiser/5344674.

Shriners Children’s Northern California is profoundly grateful to Huei Young for the financial support her garden raises for our comprehensive cerebral palsy program. Community support is incredibly vital to our success. Every child that would benefit from our specialized pediatric healthcare is admitted for treatment, regardless of a family’s ability to pay. Referrals for care come from pediatricians, primary care physicians, and even family members, when children require expert care for traumatic injuries or complex congenital conditions like cerebral palsy. Children are admitted for care based on medical condition and age alone. The presence or absence of insurance is not a criteria for admission and all services are provided without regard for a patient family's ability to pay.

Donations make this possible for all children. We hope you will choose to spend a Sunday afternoon in April touring Huei's Garden.
