Since Greta Thunberg began the #FridaysForFuture movement in 2018, climate activism has quickly gained traction among students worldwide. Those striking have often opted to skip classes on Friday to make a bold statement to their communities and legislators - we need climate action now.
Along with the Project 9 USA initiative to hold nationwide climate strikes this Earth Week, students will be striking peacefully at 12pm on Friday, April 23rd, outside of Los Angeles City Hall, reminding legislators and local elected officials that the climate crisis calls for much more action than it has received thus far.
The organizers hope that this will provide an opportunity for other young people to share their concern about environmental issues regardless of their level of expertise on climate change or policy. Just because you're too young to vote doesn't mean you can't get involved! Young people are powerful and are the future.
Although the movement is geared towards the attention of Southern California's younger constituents, anyone is welcomed and encouraged to show up! Please bring a water bottle and a sign, and don't forget to wear a mask!
