Giants Rising: The Secrets and Superpowers of the Redwoods
Revealing the wonders of redwood trees like never before, Giants Rising tells the epic tale of America's most iconic forests, including the mission to help them rise up from the past –and help us ALL face the challenges of the future. We invite you to join Sempervirens Fund for a screening of Giants Rising, a 2024 documentary narrated by Michael Franti that delves into the mysteries of California's coast redwoods, some of the oldest and tallest living organisms on Earth.
The film aims to celebrate these majestic trees while highlighting efforts to ensure their survival for future generations. The film reveals the extraordinary "superpowers" of the redwoods, including their resilience to fire, their ability to capture carbon, transport water to the forest canopy, absorb fog, and share resources through intricate underground networks. The documentary also explores the profound connections between redwoods and humans, offering insights into how these ancient giants can enhance physical and emotional well-being and provide clues about resilience and longevity.
