SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK TO HOST BOOK SIGNING EVENT FOR EMPTY PLATES: THE EVOLUTION OF HUNGER RELIEF

Dave Krepcho Pays Tribute to Early Pioneers and Inspires New Strategies

WHAT:

With one in eight neighbors at risk of experiencing hunger on any given day, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (SHFBCF) has seen a growing need for food assistance in recent years. That’s why leaders are inviting the community to attend a book signing event on Thursday, Aug. 8 for Empty Plates: The Evolution of Hunger Relief.

Written by Dave Krepcho, who spent 34 years as part of the Feeding America network locally and nationally (including 17 as President and CEO at SHFBCF), the book documents the history of hunger relief efforts while inspiring new solutions. It pays tribute to the early pioneers of the food bank movement while also providing valuable insights on how leadership, vision and culture can increase any organization’s impact.

Attendees will be able to purchase a new copy of the book or bring one for Dave to sign. A portion of book sales will go to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.

While registration is not required, RSVPs are welcome. To sign up visit, http://www.FeedHopeNow.org/EmptyPlates.

About Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida (SHFBCF)

SHFBCF is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 750 local nonprofit feeding partners throughout Central Florida. With the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributes 300,000 meals every day to a seven-county service area, which includes Brevard, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. Feeding neighbors facing hunger is only the beginning. By investing in job training programs, advocating for access to nutritious foods, and inspiring our community to get involved, SHFBCF is leaning into the root causes of hunger and helping our neighbors thrive. With support from the Central Florida community, Second Harvest Food Bank is feeding inspiration, change, achievement, health — and families facing hunger.
