Stumbling into the Lawrenceville Arts Center this month is the most catastrophic play to hit Broadway. The Play That Goes Wrong will run on the Clyde and Sandra Strickland Grand Stage from May 25 – June 18. This Olivier Award-winning comedy is a hilarious hybrid of Monty Python and Sherlock Holmes that’s so wrong, it’s right. It’s opening night for the 1920s murder-mystery play The Murder at Haversham Manor and things are quickly going from bad to utterly disastrous. With an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead and actors who trip over everything including their lines, the show might not go on. Deemed “COMIC GOLD!” by Variety and “A GUT-BUSTING HIT” by New York Times, this self-referential play-within-a-play is sure to delight audiences when it makes its grand –- ill-fated— Lawrenceville debut.

“It’s always a joy when we get to bring the best of Broadway to Lawrenceville—and this show is set to be one of our most joyful so far,” said Aurora Theatre Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director Ann-Carol Pence. “The Play That Goes Wrong showcases the kind of creativity, energy and absolute hilarity that makes theatre such an enjoyable medium for storytelling.”

This zany cast of characters will be brought to life by fabulously funny local actors including Aurora Theatre audience favorites Candy McLellan and Marcello Audino, who play Annie the Stage Manager and Chris/Inspector Carter. Aurora Theatre Co-Founder Anthony Rodriguez will make his grand return to the Aurora Theatre stage as Robert/Thomas Colleymoore. Anthony recently celebrated his first anniversary as Executive Director of HUB404 Conservancy. Other standout performances include Arianna Hardaway as Sandra/Florence Colleymoore, Caleb Clark as Max/Cecil Haversham/Arthur the Gardner, Skyler Brown as Trevor the Lighting and Sound Operator, Chris Hecke as Jonathan/Charles Haversham and Jeff McKerley as Dennis/Perkins.

The real creative team behind The Play That Goes Wrong is a much less disastrous crew of talented professionals, led by Director Heidi Cline McKerley. Isabel and Moriah Curley-Clay (Kim’s Convenience) return to lead scenic design, while Kristin Talley (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Kim’s Convenience) returns as Props Designer. The creative team is rounded-out by Stage Manager Victoria Broyles, Lighting Designer Toni Sterling, Sound Designer Mikaela Fraser, Costume Designer Nyrobi Moss and Fight Choreographer David Sterritt.

Regular show times are as follows:

  • Thursday–Friday: 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 2:30 p.m., 8 p.m.
  • Sunday 2:30 p.m.

*With a special matinee performance at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31.

Recommended for all ages, The Play That Goes Wrong will be presented May 25 – June 18. Tickets start at $20 and may be purchased online at tickets.auroratheatre.com or by calling the Box Office at 678.226.6222.
