One of the most profound and lasting impacts that the late Gene Harris had on the Boise Community was his presence at local jam sessions. Gene could be found down at the venues such as the Idanha and the Grove Hotel each night where he would invite local students and artists to jam. Gene would patiently accompany them and help them to learn and experience the living American Artform of jazz in the same way that he and the other great jazz mast
ers learned. This type of experience is one that is more and more lacking from the formative experiences of jazz students globally.
Paid for by the Gene Harris Jazz Festival, our "Jam Nights" will feature a professional rhythm section and be free and open to all students of all levels. Participants are encouraged to read our "Jam Session 101" document so that they know what to expect.
