FRIENDSHIP FLEA MARKET IS A TRADITION

Twice a year the Friendship Flea Market turns the quiet little 1868 town of Friendship into a busy marketplace.
The event is held the same days the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association holds its Spring and Fall Shoots.
Friendship Flea Market celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2017. The first show was held in August 1968 with 14 booths. By spring 1969 it boasted 47 vendors and by fall 148 set-ups and now hosts almost 500 vendor spaces.
The show always starts on Saturday of the second full weekend through the third full weekend of June and September, 9 full days.
The market opens daily at 9 a.m. and the attendance swells to heavy on the weekend. During the week, it is easier to move around and browse the displays. Most vendors stay open until 7 p.m.
Everything imaginable can be found at the flea market. Look for treasures including furniture, knives, guns, antiques, jewelry, clothes, toys, tools and lots of leather. Also, an excellent place to find many handcrafted items and related items to the more primitive.
Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and plan to stay the day and take in everything. You won't go hungry. Food booths serve sausages, ribeye and philly beef sandwiches, corndogs, cajun food, pizza and a yummy favorite. kettle corn.
Dessert booths feature creamy whip, fried oreos and funnel cakes with any topping your heart desires. Don't miss the kettle corn and roasted nuts with a variety of flavors, both good items to eat there or take home.
Horse drawn trolley rides are available to take you to and from town allowing you to visit the NMLRA and more market spaces near downtown Friendship.
The fun doesn't end early. Stay late on the weekends and enjoy the campfire and live music on Friday and Saturday nights 8 p.m. to midnight.
Bring your chair and cooler and wear your dancing shoes. Don't forget that campsites are available so you can stay awhile, relax and see everything. Campsites along the creek are either primitive or with electric, fee is $10/person/night, kids under 12 stay free.
This Southeastern Indiana attraction isn't the place to drive through if your in a hurry, so plan to stay a day or more.
Admission is free and parking is $3.00 a car per day and is available on either side of the flea market.
There is plenty of parking, clean restrooms with showers, and paved roads that make it easy to push those strollers around. There is ease of accessibility for disabled persons, as all roads are paved within the actual market for easy access with wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Special Vehicle Permits, for disabled only, must be issued for golf carts at the office.
