Dr. Nitana Hicks Greendeer will discuss the story of the Wampanoag’s language loss and reclamation, and the Wampanoag Nation’s efforts to bring it back to a principal means of communication for its people. Her talk from 1 to 3 PM Saturday, October 26 at UU Falmouth, 840 Sandwich Rd., East Falmouth, will be open to the public free of charge

Dr. Nitana Hicks Greendeer is a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe. She has worked for over 20 years in tribal language and education. She is currently the head of the Weetumuw School, the Tribe’s culture-based Montessori school located in Mashpee. She is also the mother of five of the school’s past and present students. Dr. Greendeer is a visiting professor in the American Studies and Critical Native American and Indigenous Studies department at Brown University, and is a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Council.

The Series is a collaboration between Linking Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Knowledge (L.I.N.K.) and The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Falmouth (UU Falmouth). The talks are supported by The Fund for Science, the Falmouth Fund of the Cape Cod Foundation and The Cape Cod Foundation.
