Anne Peretz Author Talk

Payomet Performing Arts Center will host an exciting presentation under the Tent on Saturday, September 18 at 10:30 a.m. when Anne Peretz discusses her new book, Opening Up: The Parenting Journey with Barry Zuckerman, world-renowned pediatrician and founder of the Reach Out and Read literacy program for children.

As Henry Louis Gates states in the foreword, Opening Up "addresses the seemingly intractable knot of poverty, racism, violence, oppressions, stress, and hopelessness that we face in our country and around the world... Now more than ever, Peretz's affirming stories offer much needed hope and inspiration, an invaluable gift in these times."

The book tells Anne's story from 1982 when she decided existing social services fell atrociously short of what was needed. It was then that she decided to open The Family Center in Somerville, Massachusetts to offer family therapy services to low-income communities with high levels of trauma. Over the last 38+years, she and her colleagues have developed a groundbreaking group program that was rebranded as Parenting Journey. Today, Parenting Journey provides compassionate programs in more than five-hundred sites, and trains hundreds of facilitators to work with families throughout the United States, Africa and Central America.

Her book is the story of that profound and inspiring journey.
