About The Worcester Youth Orchestras
Founded in 1947, The Worcester Youth Orchestras (WYO) is the third oldest youth orchestra in the nation and has a long history of magnificent performances across New England and Europe. More than 250 students from 60 communities across Central Massachusetts participate in WYO, bringing live musical events to 2,500 concert goers. The WY Symphony Orchestra is the flagship ensemble of more than 100 players which regularly performs at Mechanics Hall. Learn More Here.
Jonathan Colby has served as Artistic Director for WYO for 13 seasons and has overseen a period of expansive growth and musical development. He also serves as Music Director of The Farmington Valley Symphony (CT) and the Keene Chorale (NH) in addition to numerous guest conducting appearances across the Northeast. In 2017 he was awarded the Key to the City of Worcester by Major Joseph Petty.

Dr. Churchill is widely known as a conductor in New England and abroad. He has been the Music Director and Conductor of Symphony Pro Musica since its founding in 1982, and was Associate Conductor of the Boston Ballet (1990-2012), Resident Conductor of the Asian Youth Orchestra (1990-2001), and Conductor of the Thayer Symphony Orchestra (1976-1983) and the Salisbury Lyric Opera and Chamber Orchestra (1986-2005). Guest conducting engagements include Tokyo’s Komaki Ballet, the National Ballet of Mongolia, and the New Zealand National Youth Orchestra.
