The Glacier - Two Medicine Alliance will host its 15th annual Fall Gathering the weekend of September 13-15 in East Glacier Park. This family-friendly community event is always a wonderful time of celebration, adventure, and learning about the lands, waters and wildlife of the Badger-Two Medicine, Glacier National Park, and surrounding areas in the Crown of the Continent ecosystem.
The weekend includes educational presentations on current conservation issues, live music, organized hikes, good food, and a fun live and silent benefit auction.
The Fall Gathering kicks off Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Community Hall with a presentation by Daniel Bird, University of Montana graduate student, about his research into elk migration on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation and surrounding public lands. The John Floridis Trio will perform afterwards. Light refreshments and non-alcoholic beverages available.
On Saturday morning, the Fall Gathering shifts to Glacier Park Lodge, beginning at 10 a.m. Whisper Camel-Means, Wildlife Management Program Biologist for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes will discuss the effectiveness of the wildlife crossing structures the CSKT have constructed on Highway 93 at reducing collisions and facilitating wildlife movement. After lunch, Elliot Fox, Blackfoot Confederacy, will explore the emergence of Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas in Canada and how they might serve as a model for similar designations in the U.S. Local musician Joey Running Crane will play during the happy hour, followed by a catered dinner and benefit auction. All proceeds benefit the Glacier-Two Medicine Alliance's work to protect and steward the culturally and ecologically irreplaceable wildlands of the Badger-Two Medicine and surrounding areas in the Crown of the Continent ecosystem.
The Fall Gathering concludes on Sunday, September 15th with organized group hikes in the Badger-Two Medicine area of the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest and in Glacier National Park. Meet at 9 am in the East Glacier Park community parking area on Hwy 2 to join one of these outings.
There is no cost to attend Friday night or Sunday's hikes, though donations are encouraged. Tickets for Saturday are $75 for adults, $65 for children and students, and include a catered lunch and dinner, two alcoholic drinks (cash bar available), along with snacks and other beverages. Registration and complete event information can be found at the Glacier - Two Medicine Alliance web page to attend: https://www.glaciertwomedicine.org/fall-gathering.
