Photographer Steven Burton, sponsored by The Cafe Royal Cultural Foundation and in support of The Fortune Society, will present his acclaimed portrait series, “Skin Deep, Looking Beyond the Tattoos,” at 454 Carroll Street in the heart of Brooklyn's Gowanus neighborhood. It will open to the public on May 19 (from 6 PM to 11 PM) and run until May 22.
The exhibition explores the impact that tattoos have had on former gang members and people trying to escape gang life. It showcases 36 large-scale “before and after” portraits alongside written narratives and a projection of a short documentary film featuring recorded interviews of the subjects.
RSVP by May 17th by emailing stevenburtonphoto@gmail.com. Admission is $10 at the door. All proceeds will go towards The Fortune Society and its mission to help people with criminal justice histories be assets to their communities.
