Sotto Voce, Buffalo's newest opera company, is excited to announce their summer production of Puccini's SUOR ANGELICA. Performed in St. Joseph University Parish's beautiful sanctuary, this production will feature soprano Jessie Downs in the title role – one that she has performed before and counts among her favorites. The company is also very excited to welcome back Chicago-based mezzo-soprano Ola Rafalo (Diskana in THE SECOND SIGHT) as Angelica's aunt, the brooding Principessa. Soprano Julia Anne Cordani will be playing the role of the cheerful Suor Genovieffa, and is joined by vocalists Jamie Gangemi, Erin Alexander, Rosa Vu, Sarah Arrowsmith, Laurie Pastena, Aleksandra Tirone, Emily Yancey, Maria Parker, and Maria Jacobi as the other sisters of the convent.
To be directed by Alex Huddleston, this "opera nouveau" interpretation of Puccini's classic will present SUOR ANGELICA as a "contemporary tragedy," connecting the experience of the sisters in the original story with the experience of survivors of the Troubled Teen Industry.
