Drawing inspiration from Emma Lazarus's 1883 description of the Statue of Liberty as "Mother of Exiles," United Voices of America launches the Mannes Sounds season with a celebration of the many diverse voices and perspectives that, together, create the United States of America. With music by Louis W. Ballard, Paul Chihara, Aaron Copland, Mohammed Fairouz, Huang Ruo, Roberto Sierra, Virgil Thomson, and George Walker, and poetry by Emma Lazarus, Marilyn Chin, Margaret Walker, Ada Limon as well as jazz favorites from past and present, this amazing evening of music and poetry will feature students from each of the College of Performing Arts' three schools.
