Photography by Adam DeSorbo
What does it mean to explore? was made during my exploration of the Adirondack Park from 2020-2021. During this time, I was guided by the question of how landscape can remain as itself while being seen as more than a separate-from-humanity, wild place. How does one view earth not as a subject, but rather as the life source from which we come and to which we are intrinsically connected? Through the exploration of place and concept, I was guided by moments of quickly passing time that provided an opportunity for momentary oneness and new understandings of what it means to spend time amongst the mountains. In order to portray the intricacy of this relationship with the landscape, the photographs represent both the grandiosity and intimacy of place as an ode to life on earth being reliant on both the large and the small, regardless if it is ourselves, biodiversity and ecosystems, society, or even the universe in its infinitely-expanding entirety.
