An intimate evening with world-renowned Emanuel Ax

On Friday, March 24, Emanuel Ax will perform on behalf of the Ben Carlson-Berne (BCB) Scholarship Fund to assist underserved and economically disadvantaged youth musicians in Cincinnati. The solo performance starts at 7:30 PM in the Corbett Theater at the School for Creative and Performing Arts and is open to the public. BCB recipients Trinity Thrasher and Morgan Olivia Reynolds will also perform.

As one of today’s most famous classical pianists, Emanuel Ax tours the US and abroad playing with major orchestras all over the world. Early in his career, Mr. Ax won the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition and the Avery Fisher Prize. He then won GRAMMY Awards for his second and third volumes of his cycle of Haydn’s piano sonatas and made a series of GRAMMY-winning recordings with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Mr. Ax is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and holds honorary doctorates of music from Skidmore College, New England Conservatory of Music, Yale University, and Columbia University.

In a unique performance, Mr. Ax will play in Cincinnati this spring specifically to further the cause of the Ben Carlson-Berne Scholarship Fund.

The BCB Scholarship Fund is unique in that it focuses on building a strong mentorship between students and tutors over many years. When a student receives a scholarship, they can extend it throughout middle school and high school. It’s also unique in that scholarships consider both need and interest and are not solely talent based.

The Emanuel Ax concert is sponsored by The Jack and Joanne Lindy Charitable Trust, The Mayerson Foundation, The Rita S. Metcalfe Foundation, The Friedlander Family Fund, Judy and Ed Berne, Ann and Harry Santen, and Squeaky Toy Films. Cincinnati Public Radio is the media partner.
