About the exhibit:
In many cultures, the fern symbolizes new beginnings, precognition, and love. They are mysterious and kind, holding a deep knowledge of the interconnectedness of us all. In this unique collection of brand new works, Emie explores the magic of ferns through the cyanotype process. For her, this process is a process of slowing down - being present in nature with the sights, sounds, and smells - and sharing in the wonder of Mother Earth. This practice of presence allows the nervous systems to slow down and creates a space for deep healing. As a child, Emie spent hours walking among the wild ferns and the freedom and kinship they offer. It is through the many experiences of her childhood that she developed her love of nature and her deep need to be among the ferns and trees.
Emie is a mixed-media artist working in cyanotype, acrylic, and watercolor. Trained as a modern dancer, she graduated with a B.A. in Dance/Theatre Arts from Dickinson College, where she won the Emil R. and Tamar Weiss Prize in Creative Arts. After graduation, she immediately moved to NYC where she worked in the arts, arts administration, and fundraising. She has shown her mixed-media works in Brooklyn, the Greater Philadelphia Area, and Wilmington, DE. She has presented her choreographic works at venues including the Blue Ball Barn, Delaware Art Museum, Brandywine River Museum, Triskelion Arts, the EstroGenius Festival, Dixon Place, and the Bowery Poetry Club, among others. In 2020, Emie launched her business Blue Jar, where she creates artworks and teaches classes. Emie currently dances professionally in the Greater Philadelphia Area & Delaware. Teaching art & dance is also extremely important to her and she is a teaching artist at the Main Line Art Center, Community Arts Center, Rockdale Art Center, and the Rehoboth Art League, among others. At the center of Emie's work is her love for blue, nature, and magic of the process. Learn more about her work here.
