28th annual COBYS Bike and Hike

The 28th annual Bike and Hike, hosted by COBYS Family Services (COBYS), will be held on Sunday afternoon, September 8, at the Lititz Church of the Brethren, 300 West Orange Street, Lititz, PA 17543. Signature components of the gathering include a three-mile walk through Lititz and a 10- or 25-mile bicycle ride. New this year, the Tasty Tour is a 1.5 mile walk to Lititz with four stops at local eateries to sample tasty treats. All events end back at the church for the Incredible Ice Cream Celebration. First time and veteran participants are encouraged to join.

The Bike and Hike is a great way for individuals, families or other groups to support vulnerable children and families in our community while enjoying the fresh air and tasty treats. Fundraising and awareness efforts through Bike and Hike begin with the Kickstart Fund with the goal of raising $25,000 before September 8. Through registrations and additional donations, hundreds of sponsors, donors and participants join together to support the foster care, adoption, counseling and family life education related services provided by the human services organization.

Registration is open now and runs through the day of the event for the three-mile walk and bicycle rides. The Tasty Tour is pre-registration only until August 26 so participants can enjoy treats from Dosie Dough, Café Arabella, Sweet Legacy and Slate Café. Walk and ride registration is $30 and Tasty Tour is $60 with early bird discounts available. Pre-registration is encouraged, and participants can even create their own online fundraising page. Executive Director J. Michael Lausch joined the COBYS organization in March. In that short time, he has seen the complex, necessary, often heart-breaking and even joyful aspects of care provided to children and families at risk in our community. “The unfortunate reality is that without a support system, many families struggle. COBYS is here to walk alongside our clients when they need assistance, providing for physical safety as well as mental and emotional wellbeing.” While the challenges COBYS staff address can often feel heavy, Lausch is excited to join with the larger community for some food, exercise and fun, all to lift up our neighbors who need extra care.
