Wings Over Providence, an Academy Award winning film with live pipe organ

The Rhode Island Chapter of the American Guild of Organist will present the Epic Silent Movie "WINGS" accompanied by a live improvised pipe organ score on Saturday, May 21, 2022 @ 7:30 PM. The purpose of the Rhode Island Chapter of The American Guild of Organists is to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, to encourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutual support, inspiration, education, and certification of guild members.

WINGS (1927) is the first movie to win an Academy Award for best picture. It presents a fictional recollection of actual events from WW1, including the epic Battle of Saint-Mihiel. Many of us have recently commemorated the centennial of World War One and it is fitting to honor those men and women who lived through it. Given the tragic events unfolding in Ukraine, it is particularly poignant and relevant at this moment to recognize the futility and tragedy of War.

Accompanying the movie on the church's magnificent Aeoline/Skinner pipe organ with a live improvised score will be International Sonic Artist and Providence Performing Arts Center House Organist, Peter Krasinski.

Son of WINGS director, William Wellman, Jr. described Mr. Krasinski's accompaniment of the film with three simple words, "You're the Best".

Krasinski presents the magic of music and image in many of the world's most famous cathedrals, concert halls and theaters. He performances around the world include Asia, Europe and North America. His multiple accolades include First Prize in the AGO Improvisation Competition. His most recognized specialty is the art of musical improvisation which he utilizes when performing for silent film masterpieces.

He reviews the movie and creates "composition in real time", tailoring the music for each scene to blend with the film. No two performances are alike. His many performances of silent film include seven tours of Japan.
