Michael Preacely is a rising star on the operatic stage and is known for a versatile singing ability and style that allow him to cross between genres from classical repertoire to pop, contemporary, and Broadway. He has received critical acclaim for many of his performances, including Phantom in Phantom of the Opera, Scarpia in Tosca, Ford in Falstaff, Marcello in La Boheme, the High Priest in Samson and Delilah, and Porgy and Jake in Porgy and Bess. Mr. Preacely has performed with many major and regional opera houses and orchestras in the United States and abroad. Accompanied by the JCSO on November 16, Michael Preacely will sing "Old American Songs" by Aaron Copland.
Karen E. Smith has been an instructor of voice at ETSU since 2002 and Director of the ETSU Theatre since 2007. Under her direction, the ETSU Opera Theatre has produced many full-length operas and children's operas, to the delight of area audiences.
"The ETSU opera theatre is presenting some opera favorites on November 16. We will be performing arias from La Boheme and Turandot and ensemble pieces from Carmen and Die Fledermaus. This will be our third appearance with the JCSO and we are very excited to be a part of this evening" reported Ms. Smith.
"This concert is a terrific opportunity to introduce children to operatic voices," said Susan Lambert, orchestra director at Science Hill High School. "All of these pieces will be short and dramatic and will capture their imagination. Some young people just might be inspired by the beauty of these voices to consider a new goal for themselves!"
