Colin Hancock and the Joymakers
Colin Hancock will lead the Joymakers for the Austin Traditional Jazz Society on Sunday, October 20, from 2 to 5 pm at Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Lane, Austin. Colin Hancock, a taken jazz musician on a number of instruments, is also a noted jazz historian. Last year, he was nominated for a Grammy Award, and is a recent recipient of the Independent Initiatives Award from the Association for Recorded Sound Collections.
The Joymakers specialize in the music of college jazz bands of the 1920s. This should be a fun afternoon of jazz played by experts.
There is plenty of free parking at Ben Hur. The hall contains a large dance floor. Snacks, beer, wine and sodas are available. Patrons can bring their own food. ATJS concerts are family-friendly.
Season memberships can be purchased at the door or by visiting http://www.atjs.org . Guests can enter for $12 and college students with ID and members of the Austin Jazz Society are $5.
