"An die Musik" ("To Music") is a song composed by Franz Schubert which refers to music as being the highest art. It will be sung in German by the 23 singers in Cantate Children's and Youth Choir. Other songs will be sung in Spanish, Malaysian, and English. A featured work in the concert is Benjamin Britten's cantata, "Friday Afternoons", based on the texts of children's poems. The concert will end with two Malaysian folk songs, one about flying kites and the other about fish, which are traditionally performed with dance movements. Cantate is a community choir and includes singers from second grade through high school. They are directed by Peggy Haas Howell and accompanied by Elizabeth Wilkinson. The Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation provivdes scholarships for the choir. To find out more about Cantate visit Cantatechoir.org.
