Yata and Youth

Award Winning Musician and Local Youth Host a Concert at the Historic Mabel Tainter

Yata, a musician and mentor who lived in Durand, Wisconsin for many years, will be in town to help local churches put on a fundraising concert at the Mabel Tainter theater in Menomonie. The concert is called “Youth and Yata,” and will feature Yata, McKenna Girdeen on piano, and local talent. The youth are raising money for a trip to New Orleans this summer to go the Lutheran Youth Gathering. Yata (singer/songwriter/guitarist) has recorded twelve CD’s of original music and received a Minnesota Music Award in Folk. His joyful music reflects his distant travels ranging from island calypso, Mississippi ragtime, rockin’ blues to Americana folk songs of wit, humor and mirth.
Yata has been a guest artist on A Prairie Home Companion, Northern Spirit Radio, Simply Folk, and Spectrum West. He has been a music coordinator for Mabel Tainter concerts featuring high school emerging artists, senior citizens and connecting generations. Currently, he hosts a World Music broadcast on WOJB radio.

The show will be family friendly and feature folk, pop, classical, country, drama and jokes.
